 How I work
Can I expect active feedback? Minimize

Although I am an intense and thoughtful listener, I believe in being an active participant in the treatment relationship.  I help you recognize personal obstacles, needs and desires.

At the end of the initial assessment I will ask if you have been comfortable with our interaction and my style.  If not, I will make referrals to other therapists who might better suit your needs.

The treatment process can create feelings of vulnerability and anxiety and I am careful to foster an atmosphere of trust and caring.  Change can only occur in a safe setting.

My sensitivity for evaluating a "right fit" comes from understanding and participating in psychotherapy both as a client and as a therapist.

How often do we meet? Minimize

Our frequency of meeting times may vary but it is generally best to meet weekly in the beginning. This plan speeds the process of gathering more history and developing strategies to change problematic behaviors and thinking.

Many careers require frequent business travel.  We simply schedule when we can and make the most out of the appointments when possible.

In some cases, when conditions are complicated, twice-weekly meetings may
be advised.

What type of therapy do you use? Minimize

Years of experience have taught me that no one particular theoretical orientation or therapy style works best.

I use all the tools of psychotherapy including cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, educational, analytic and humanistic interventions.

Any emphasis on a certain style of therapy will be based on your unique needs and comfort.  Goals of therapy are created and agreed upon in the first meeting.
